Your research has been conducted, your appointment made and now you’re in my office for the very first time. You’re kind of nervous though because you have no idea what to expect. For your piece of mind I have put together a layout of what you can expect from the average first appointment.
When you arrive it’s just like any doctor, you’ll need to fill out some paperwork about your general health history as well as marking the areas that you feel discomfort on a diagram of the human body.
The next step is a routine physical exam followed by one that focuses on the whole spine. Special attention is given to the areas that you mentioned were causing discomfort, however the human body is remarkably good at compensating to protect itself so the pain in your lower back may in fact be caused by a problem with your neck. This is why a thorough exam is administered.
X-Rays of your spine are may be necessary depending on your injury. Xrays allow the study of the condition of the actual bone and soft tissues as well as any anomalies, normal bone wear and any other factors which will determine the best treatment plan for you. The treatment plan will take into consideration the extent of your problem, your general health, the current condition of your spine and what you hope to achieve with treatment.
There we go. All done with your first appointment! Not so bad, now was it?Google+
